I love history , and have seen many actually good films about the times of the Inquisition, but this movie is crap, and the actors were laughable (this film was written by Kirk and her eventual cohort and fiance/dupe, Neil Marshall) and seems like more of a pulpy comic book than any reference to history. Yes, you are correct about the utter debauched evil of the people who committed the atrocities of the Inquisition…unfortunately since I don’t believe in hell or heaven, it makes those atrocities even more evil and senseless.
Yes, this movie was indeed pretty much a joke. Let’s face it, they used a real historical atrocity to promote a feminist cause… Actually, not even a feminist cause (as bad as that would be) but it was basically a lame attempt to promote one actress. That’s actually quite disgusting. Using the drama of so many people who were killed and tortured in unimaginable ways to promote your own political and PERSONAL agenda. This will backfire on both her and fiance though unfortunately for the. And you’re right, this movie is not so much about the Inquisition, it’s about the main female character (the purpose being to promote the actress playing it). They could’ve used any topic and circumstances to place her in but they chose the Inquisition… And it is a poorly made movie, period. However, it does provide one useful information and it made me aware of something that I didn’t know before. That 500 000 women were killed under the accusation of “witchcraft” by the Inquisition. Which means the number of people killed by the Inquisition was MUCH GREATER than I thought. The Inquisition can be considered an act of genocide. Perpetrated by the Church in the name of Christ nonetheless. Which like I said above, makes it the most disgusting and appalling such act in history.
