I am finally catching up on the last season. I have to say I am extremely disappointed in how they turned this romance on it’s ass. I really think Kate was super resentful of Toby the last 3 seasons with his weight loss journey. There were 3 major plot points that I think were not explored enough, because she came out the victor in each one. 1. Toby was a dick for not telling her about the job back in LA, but it was significantly lower in pay and a demotion. He pointed out that they are raising a disabled son ( to be an artist) and that takes a lot of money. 2. At the dinner table with the sweet potatoes Toby points out their genetics. Kevin is an 2x addict Toby + Kate are food addicts. Baby Jack has a huge hill to climb his entire life dodging addiction. It’s not wrong for Toby to try and teach him early about moderation. 3. Between the job and the brothers getting in his face outside after Jack’s accident - THAT is when it should have been brought up that the two of them have been in their relationship the whole time. If I was Toby I would want to life in SF also to get some distance from the brothers but still be close to the parents. 4. Toby gave up everything, came home, took a pay cut, and became Kate’s punching bag. He was caustic when he spoke to her, but at that point I couldn’t blame him, she pissed me off too.
