The film received so much negative attention that Transamerica sold United Artists and got out of the film business. Time listed it in an article of the 100 worst ideas of the 20th century. It, and a handful of other flops around the same time, had a huge impact on how films were made at the time. And yes, it was a flop. 44 million to make and only 3.5 million at the box office.
