My biggest complaint about this show is that it never got a second season. My second biggest complaint is that, for the first time in my life, it made me feel old, because I realized I was loving it for no reason other than 80s nostalgia, which is dialed up to 11 throughout. Otherwise I would have just liked it. So 3 stars, but it read like 4?
If I were into graphic novels growing up, it would probably get another star. But I was 30 before someone finally convinced me to read Minutemen (followed immediately by Sandman). So while I appreciate the aesthetic, that aspect didn’t grab me by the nostalgia the way the punk rock, prep-school, drama nerd vibe did.
I realize this is an excessively confessional review. But gen-X is an excessively self-absorbed cohort, and that’s who this show is for, so it seems appropriate.
