However, what happened behind the scenes that led to the assassination of Arch Duke Ferdinand? Who stood to gain financially & politically because of his death?
As for the royal cousins (all played by the same actor in this movie), the issue wasn’t quite different on our own earth. I watched it on the history channel quite a while back. They did often quarrel & hardly got along. One such example had something to do with furniture. Never made sense to me.

They were also swole over the July Crisis of 1914 when the Habsburg Empire invaded the Kingdom of Serbia. So they decided the best route to achieving their goals was to have Franz Ferdinand killed.
