SNL has served as the premier venue for televised live music performances while at the same time continuously pushing boundaries to reimagine the relationship between music and comedy. Comedy is the heart of SNL, but music is the soul, and the unique combination of the two has earned the show an enduring place in American culture. The three-hour special documentary includes a look back at some of the SNL's 900-plus Musical Guests with interviews of musical artists, cast, writers and more. It promises "untold stories behind the culture-defining, groundbreaking and news-making musical performances, sketches and cameos of the past 50 years." The broadcast is co-directed by Oz Rodriguez and The Roots drummer, Tonight Show bandleader, and Oscar-winning filmmaker Questlove.
