Considered canon & a continuation of the 5 year mission, many did not like the filmation color palette. It is full of eye-hurt & is visually rapey, but the show is a DC Fontana extravaganza & has most of the TOS cast for voices.

In some aspects, this is even better than the original live-action series. Not being limited by capabilities of a TV production in the 70s, the writers seemed to produce much more creative sci-fi scripts for the animated show.
