Jo Gwang Jo was an ambitious Neo-Confucian reformist under the reign of King Jungjong in early 16th Century Joseon. His criticisms of conservative scholars and examinations in Jungjong's court made him extremely unpopular amongst traditionalists, resulting in a scholarly purge. |
