On the final stage of his tour, Connolly reaches Edinburgh. Here he reminisces about a Festival appearance somewhat earlier in his career when he queued in the rain to perform a brief "trailer" for his show. Queuing behind him was a musician protecting his violin under his arm. His name was Yehudi Menuhin.Musing on the dour Scottish philosophy of "Thou shalt not" - this, he points out, is a country where the men wear skirts and no knickers - Connolly tours Edinburgh castle, spits on the Heart of Midlothian, visits the underground street of Mary King 's Close and eventually arrives at the Usher Hall, the night's venue. |
