Netflix has greenlit a new TV adaptation of “Little House on the Prairie,” the beloved book series written by Laura Ingalls Wilder. The little town I lived in didn’t have a library, but we had the big red bookmobile. I couldn’t wait for it to roll into town for the first time. The first book I checked out was The Little House on the Prairie. I read all of them and so glad our little town had the mobile library. Reading is fundamental.
I have a vivid memory of sitting on my bed, eating Cheerios right out of the box, and reading Little House books. I watched every single episode of that series twice, back when they showed series for 23 weeks, then took a break and showed them again for 23 weeks. We only had three stations: ABC, NBC, AND CBS, so they showed everything twice so you could see it if you watched something else the first time around. I miss those days sometimes. Everything was so simple.
Of course they did, Netflix is the go to company for obligatory franchise milk fests. Fuller House a perfect example of this. I loved this series growing up, I have no faith that Netflix will deliver us a worthy successor of the name of this timeless show.
It’ll be re-booted as Little House in the Hood and tell the stories of George Floyd and his family’s struggles living in a black ghetto and experiences with systemic racism.
