De Jong used to live in the archiepiscopal palace, Maliebaan 40. During the occupation, he ended up having serious conflicts with the NSB and the occupation authorities. He openly spoke out against the lifting of the trade unions and the Holocaust. Surprisely enough De Jong was never arrested. |
