In Bath, the McAlinden family are persuaded by long-time friend, Jeff Arundell, to invest in a stock that is guaranteed to be on the up, but Jeff has other intentions for their money. Bath, 2016. The close-knit McAlinden family are hardworking and ambitious, each with big goals for their savings. Eldest daughter Kerry, a chef working abroad, dreams of returning home to open up a cafe. Meanwhile, her brother, Joe is slowly building up his fencing business working every hour he can to make a profit. The third sibling, Christian, at 21 years old, is newly in love and has saved up to go travelling abroad. This solid work ethic has stemmed from the head of the family, James McAlinden, who worked his way up to becoming a successful property letter. So when Jeff Arundell, a trusted family friend and stock trader, pitches an enticing opportunity with an up and coming pharmaceutical stock, the McAlindon's are keen to invest. With promises of hefty returns and a safety net of refunds if things go south, it feels like a win-win situation. But as time passes, and Jeff's assurances start to unravel amidst a series of setbacks and murky explanations, the McAlindens soon find themselves caught in a storm of uncertainty, with their dreams now at risk of being completely destroyed.
