In this first episode Beth travels to Worcestershire to meet Petal, a chicken that's stopped laying eggs. The abrupt decline in egg production has owner Caroline worried and she's hoping Beth can get to the bottom of it. Beth also travels to see a dog called Yogi who has a very un-dog like habit: he hates going for a walk! This very unusual behaviour for a fit and healthy dog is driving owner Clare up the wall, and after exhausting all other avenues she's turned to Beth in one last ditch attempt to get Yogi moving. On her whistle stop tour of the nations problem pets Beth also drops in on Angela, a besotted owner of Misty the ferret. Talking to a ferret is a first for Beth but fortunately Misty is up for a chat. Angela is worried that Misty is lonely and wants Beth to ask her is she'd like a companion. Beth last stop is to see a cat called Arya. A rare Ragdoll Snowshoe cross who has a rather strange decision to make. Arya's owners want to know if she'd mind being cloned?
