The remains of Jean Rodenbach, train driver, are found on railway tracks. But before his body is sent to the embalmer to be reconstructed, the Selma pathologist detects clues which indicate that the man was knocked out and then placed on the rails while waiting for a train to finish him off. Another disturbing element: the unfortunate man had just lost his wife, Madeleine, who had committed suicide by throwing herself in front of her own train! Morgan Poquet, a fellow railway worker with whom Jean had an argument, is on the list of suspects, as is Charlotte, Jean's mistress who remains untraceable. Eugène, Madeleine's father who hated his son-in-law and considered him responsible for the death of his beloved daughter, is also questioned. To resolve this investigation with multiple ramifications, Marianne will take an interest in the strange Katia, the talented embalmer who was responsible for reconstructing Madeleine's body. |
