Supaboring
Just finished the first episode has promise. But idk if I’m just annoyed by all the shows that do this or what but thier have been 3 or 4 references to white people being bad in just the first episode.
no there wasnt
Yes there was between the two woman a few times. But it only happened in the first episode. Nothing like that later on.
using the qualifier ‘just’ in the first episode…
is this what you’re referring to? “you and i both know they’ll .. never promoting a black woman when they have white people to choose from”
wishing that employment in the UK wasn’t racist was the whole point.
In ep. 3 talking about sickle cell “that’s the disease only black people get innit” “ah some of the racists get it too, but it mainly affects us”
i recommend having a look at this documentary https://www.primewire.tf/movie/1518408-deconstructing-karen
we all need to be vigilant, and transform together
When I said just in the first episode I actually just finished the first episode at that time so I said just. I think I even posted that rereading what I typed. And It hasnt been edited so no trickery. And honestly I didn’t even catch the thing said in episode 3. The sickle cell thing was brought up a few times in the show. I just assumed it was true? I don’t know anything about that. Why I didn’t bring it up. You did.
no, i mean referring to non-blacks as racists, would be more questionable from your perspective than the not promoting a black woman quote. so the question is how to understand the perspective of someone calling people who are not black as racists, and my response would be to look at the documentary that i linked to, around the idea of systemic racism specifically. thanks for continuing the discussion :)
You are assuming an awful lot. Like I said before I didn’t bring up episode 3 you did. If I had a problem with something in a different episode I would of posted something on that episode . You are doubling down on something that you brought up not me.
talking about the ‘references to white people being bad’. the quote i mention which is in the same show which you don’t reference was a better example of what you were inferring, please correct me if i am wrong (i am not suggesting you are saying anything about sickle cell btw). and hence the need for discussion about how we understand what is racism
I’ll say this for third time. My first comment was right after I saw the first episode. I at the time hadn’t seen the 3rd episode you keep bringing up. And I didn’t even notice it.
im not denying that, i was mentioning an example in the show that would have been a better example of what you were talking about, and then talking about it, what it means, i think its a worth while discussion
I disagree. The comment that annoyed me generalized all white people. And the one you keep bringing up they say something about racists. Those are 2 completely different things.
ok my apologies, i inferred incorrectly, i made the link that you were upset that they were calling white people racist, either indirectly like in the first episode, or directly like what i referenced in the 3rd. i assumed in the show calling white people racist was the generalisation you were talking about
Why I kept replying figured one of us was misunderstanding something.
You need to clean your ears.
At no point was it said “other racists” in regard to sickle cell.
The qoute, and you can turn on subtitles - was “Other races”
Not racists.
You heard what you wanted to hear.
Work on that.
ah true, other races not of the racists.. anyway my point was that the show wasnt out of line even if it did say something along those lines. which was the contention of the original poster (that there was something wrong that was said)
There wasn’t a single reference to white people being bad. Please, point out one direct statement.
What the ….! New tv series that telling me that i probably am a racist, if i’m white that is,as i am. I’ts getting incredibly annoying!
Great shoe, cant wait for second season.
But did Rapman have something to do with this, Maybe Key Grip or Make Up Artist?
He got directing, writing, and creator credits.
It was a joke, as his name is all over the opening of each show. One episode even credited him with directing twice.
Hey, it could have been worse. At least he didn’t compose the music for this one, act in it or even have a cameo this time. :)
Give Em Hell Shoe!!
Probably will be disappointed but I do love a show about super powers.
next thursday , not far
hard pass
Wasn’t horrible, but it is directed at a specific audience and that will trigger some. 5/10
lemme guess…. woke liberals you mean?? (just looking at the comments here)
People that can’t view things from any other perspective than their own. Given that the definition of liberal is - willing to respect or accept behavior or opinions different from one’s own; open to new ideas, you’ve identified the wrong group. Unless you subscribe to the disingenuous notion that being intolerant of intolerance makes one intolerant, I’m not sure how you would come to that conclusion.
I was looking forward to your review on this series as i always see you on same shows and having same opinion as me….I based my reply on the comments that were written here, not on seeing it, so i am glad you mentioned what kind of people would not be liking this…. Going into a political debate is/well be useless and there is enough of that going around….
I watch a lot of stuff and I try to keep an open mind. I’d have gone into more depth on this show, but I doubt it will get a second season, so I didn’t see the point of doing so. I would have liked to see them go into a bit more depth in the storyline and less focus on the relationship drama.
sounds good to me… in other words….sounds good to let this one go for now until it gets a cancel or renew……
I’m only up on a couple episodes, looks like you binged the whole thing already, but I agree. I’m liking this so far, to a point, but they tend to spend way too much time on certain things that to me don’t seem to be as needful to the story line, like you said, and that takes away from the show a bit.
Too much time with the drama with the surrounding stuff with the girlfriend, the other issues, which I won’t get into so as not to have to make this a spoiler, that simply don’t seem to me at this point to be needed, when there could be more focus on the powers and how they came about.
That in itself would be a lot more interesting. I could say more going back to the first episode, but again, spoiler. I (so far) don’t see a second season either. Been wrong on that before, and the Brits do things differently, so there’s that. And there are some moments where the accent is so thick you can’t understand what’s being said (on the phone videos.
At least some of these guys come off as kinda likable, even the ones that are supposed to be the bad guys, I noticed. Might be a point to that, but again, only a couple episodes in.
The creator, Rapman, grew up in the neighborhoods where his movies take place. His last film, Blue Story, got a lot of bad press and was banned from some theaters when it was 1st released after a spate of violent encounters between gangs at screenings of it. It’s tricky trying to accurately portray the lives of people in these communities in a way that won’t be criticized and misinterpreted as glorifying criminal activity and violence, while also offering a message that it doesn’t have to be that way in a manner that doesn’t come across as preachy. To me, it felt that he swung too far the other way on this one. Stiil, I don’t regret watching it.
Yeah, I imagine it would be difficult to tell any kind of story involving that one way or another without ticking off a lot of people. I’m still on about the 3rd episode in, and it’s just starting to get good, so I have a bit to go on this. Never watched the other stuff this guy did.
I’m a lot more selective these days, as I have less time to watch, but this looked like it might be good, and I’m taking little breaks from re doing my apartment and doing a lot of really needed deep cleaning. Was just that time.
I can only imagine the blowback if someone tried to make a movie like this over here, all kinds of people would come out of the woodwork screaming all kinds of bloody murder. Just couldn’t be done anymore. Everybody has to be offended about everything now it seems like. I’ll give the guy a lot of credit for having the guts to do it though.
No such thing as brits its only the main island itself is called Britain
Someone needs to take a tour of the South Park Museum of Intolerance
Good lil show a lil slow to pick up but good overall.
My god… They really will make anything at netflix 😂. Still gonna try watching it obviously.
I’m no psychic. I don’t own a crystal ball nor do read palms lol but I’m getting the feeling (tingly sensations) soon a mod is gonna forbid comments… I know this, for I am “forbidden”.. lol
FYE better then marvel
