I see shit like this at this point and I’m waiting for that “You’re not The Flash, Barry, we are,” moment. No. That’s not how this works. Those around the hero can have their moments, they can be heroes in their own right, but they aren’t the titular hero. These stories aren’t written like GoT, WoT, etc where you have several main characters. We have the MC and the supporting cast. That supporting cast is all there to fill a specific role. If you want a character to fill a new role, create a new character. We have multiple Spider-men. We have multiple Hulks. There’s no justification for altering existing characters. These writers were hired to do a job - to translate existing stories to a TV format. The reason they’re altering existing characters is bc they were very clearly shot down when they proposed new ones. IF these ideas were popular, they wouldn’t need to be injected into existing content. They’d be rich and selling the rights of their IPs for some other writer to turn into a TV show. That’s enough to tell you that the consumer-base for this bs isn’t large enough, so they think they have the right to inject it into other properies. It’s no wonder ALL of these studios are burning money now, especially Disney. They went from THE power in entertrainment to literally not being able to release movies/tv shows that crack into the top 10. In terms of streaming, just a few years ago it was Netflix and Disney with a Prime series here or there. Now the top 10 consist of Netflix and literally everyone EXCEPT Disney.

So you’ve never heard of the long running comic series “What IF?” , or Marvels Multiverse?

This is not, and never once was supposed to be the 616. It’s an entirely different universe, one that is closer to the MCU than any comic - and asks .. what if Norman Osbourne discovered Peter Parker, instead of Tony Stark?

There’s even a scene that is a shot for shot recreation of Peter finding Tony Stark in his home, like we saw in the films - down to the camera tracking - but it’s Norman instead. That’s the premise. That’s all. All this weird junk you’ve spouted, is nothing but that, junk. It went over your head, and now you’re going to lash out at this realization instead of simply accepting it and moving on.

The writers fulfilled their task correctly. Create a multiverse tale that has loose ties to the MCU, and the 1960s Amazing Fantasy run, but make small yet subtle changes (magic spider, not radioactive, Sister Grimm being in Peter’s new School - hell, Midtown High destroyed, so he has to change schools - and Normon Osbourne as Parker’s benefactor, instead of Stark.) What does this all change? That’s the show.

The first sentence of your comment nullifies your entire argument. You have a series of established characters forced into new scenarios they’d never otherwise face and guess what… they’re still those same characters. What you clearly aren’t understanding, the What If series is actually a pre-existing comic series with its own canon and lore. It’s where the X Kills the X series also exist. For example, Deadpool Kills the Justice League in a Marvel - DC crossover. You have to understand, the reason those series are so rare is bc it could so easily destroy or enrage a characters fanbase. They’ll spend YEARS going back and forth for a 6 comic run because each character is worth billions of dollars. And then you have Disney hiring people who shouldn’t be writing for a high school paper for their tv shows.

I get it… its hard for people with no imagination to comprehend how literature has persisted for 2400 years, but I’m pretty sure the billions of people who came before us had it pretty well figured out. There’s a reason why every movie, book and tv show isn’t The Odyssey with gender and race bent characters. Instead we have untold unique characters and worlds that they exist in. To think this sort of behavior… any body, you have to be one of the lowest IQ individuals in the world. They literally can’t create a new, fictional character. You can hire kindergarteners to do that job.

This isn’t a debate. You have nothing to win. Your opinion is invalid. So is mine, individually. The problem is, this is a show on Disney+ who is now being outperformed by every other streaming platform. Just a few years ago, ANYTHING they put out was immediately #1 or #2 in theaters or streaming. No hesitation, just bam. Now? They’d have to combine their top 5 most viewed shows just to compete with the #9 or #10 most viewed streaming shows. Mid to low tier Youtubers are crushing Disney now. There most viewed shows last year… were the worst viewed shows of those franchises, across the board, and it got progressively worse as the year went on. And people have been calling this behavior out, SPECIFICALLY.

They don’t respect what amounts to, at times, a century of established character development and lore. It’s artistic vandalism. Even the big names in the comic industry have been calling this shit out for going on 30 years now. They have and are still actively fighting it, while also creating their own, new characters and IP’s. Proving this bs isn’t even remotely necessary. You have authors of books that are being translated to tv shows flat out telling news outlets that the writers on the show don’t understand the characters or story, refuse to listen, and they have now washed their hands of it.

Themoo 1 points 13 days ago.

The fact that you feel the need to make shit up, showcases the point where you knew you just got schooled. Well done, thanks for playing. Did not even have to finish your long nonsense there once I got to the BS. As always, people like you think your opinion is in the majority, because you’re in some hate filled echo chamber.

Liking it so far, both the graphic style, reminiscent of the classic comics, and the characters; it’s always refreshing to see a diverse cast. It’s interesting to me seeing how different creative teams interpret an already known set of characters and premise. As long as they remain faithful to the main characters’ moral values, I’m happy.

harry osborn is black and trans in this one. just an observation, not hate speech jannies.

ct451 2 points 1 month ago.

The weird race swaps are perplexing. Nothing against it but I don’t understand the purpose. Is it some sort of generational test or something? It’s fun for a nanosecond but you try to think about it and it turns odd.

chrisw 0 points 1 month ago.

not weird when you give it more than a nanosecond. they are in a different universe then 616

ct451 6 points 1 month ago.

I understand the explanation but thinking about the motives behind it and the need for it kills the fantasy.

greyfur 3 points 1 month ago.

What I was thinking.

Themoo 0 points 15 days ago.

He’s black, not trans. You don’t have to make things up to feel better about your hatred.

Euringer -1 points 1 month ago.

If you’re wondering why Marvel chooses to make new versions of classic characters for it’s under 30 minute animated content please just Google Marvel’s ownership of the Spider-Man IP. Comics fans have been dealing with the weirdness of the intellectual property for 18 years now, bit weird tv watchers can’t spend 30 seconds reading about why things are the way they are.

ct451 0 points 1 month ago.

Competing studios and ip rights and motives behind the push and what have you is is what goes through our heads. Thinking how much new content disney+ needs to fill up their lineup takes you out of the story.

Euringer 1 points 1 month ago.

I could not agree more. All of the corporate nonsense around huge IPs like Spider-Man and Batman really wilts the petels on the boquet of media. Not saying it’s good, just it is what it is.
