This is actually pretty good, all things considered. First episode I wasn’t sure, but gave it a shot, and by the third I was on a bit of a binge. I still have the last one to go, site I am using for this has the whole first season out, 8 episodes I believe. Actually pretty good.
Can’t say it’s anything exceptional on special effects, though they don’t suck either, and the sword fighting (Rapiers) aren’t what I would call expert, but there is not a lot of that, and this is not exactly a Musketeers movie, either, so there’s that…
But the writing is pretty decent, as is the acting, and the storyline isn’t all that bad either. I tend not to binge much anymore, and really don’t even watch a lot anymore, have culled a lot of shows as I just don’t have the time anymore, but would up liking this for some reason. Maybe I just needed a break and here this was…
Either way, I would suggest giving this a shot if your into this kind of thing; Supernatural it’s not, so don’t go into in expecting that, but for what it is it’s really not half bad, just give it a couple episodes and it will probably grow on you.
Despite its flaws this series is rather entertaining.
The things I like about this show is one: the location(s), they are fantastic and beautiful two: The acting, Most U.S. shows about young adults have actors that have been chosen for their sex appeal first and ability (if any) secondary at best.
What I dislike most is their obvious poor choice in arms and armor, sure someone was consulted about how to use the weapon involved but forgot to ask If it should, while weirdly not using any armor at all.
I would have though mail would have been used as it is relatively light and would provide a measure of protection to almost anyone; definitely a plot hole but not one that kills the suspension of disbelief for me, maybe a second season could address it.
I agree that the lack of proper arms and armor does not completely suspend disbelief, entirely, but it does leave some glaring plot holes.
Like if the only ones capable of effectively combating are children up to a certain age And they have been doing it for 50 years why no armor at all, don’t these people care for their children?
Chain mail sure would provide a lot of protection and it would not be necessary for it to be as heavy as traditional combat mail with ghosts not being armed, heck, you could just impregnate cloth with a silver and salt solution probably (maybe that’s what those outfits are like but they never mentioned) and make goggles out of silvered glass etc; etc.
There are lots of things that should have been thought of and implemented after 5 decades of fighting is all I am saying.
A lot better than it sounds on paper. The teens weren’t nearly as angsty as the ones you see in US productions of this sort and you get the sharp, witty dialogue of the Brits instead of snarky one-liners. Gets a thumbs-up from me.
I was able to watch 2 episodes and I was hooked. Will get some more in tonight.
Yeah, saw the first one, wasn’t really all that sure, but gave it a chance, and was bored anyway, so watched the second one, and at that point it was just enough that I was willing to give it one more, but after that, the 3rd one had me. Still have one more to go, just have not had the time to get to it. Maybe tomorrow I will have a break at some point, maybe with dinner or something, get it in, wanting to see how it pans out. Hoping at this point they make more of these, now and again the British really do come up with some decent stuff.
The English are very creative and always create unique characters. So even if the plot was thin, it would still be very watchable.
unfortunately this show was ended. Looked it up and it was cancelled for real, and does not look like it stands any chance of coming back, which is too darn bad, rather liked this one.
