Not a great sitcom, but watchable, don’t like the idea of the actors talking to the camera, we shall see I’m on the fence on this one…*Keep watching.

Snowdrop 3 points 3 years ago.

I’ve learned the hard way (on here) NOT to pay any attention to comments and just watch the shows or movies myself and then decide.

As a Brit who has watched Miranda (not by choice) I think they shouldn’t have used her show format at all. If they had just put together a ‘normal’ comedy about a cat loving single 30 something it would’ve been a lot better.

The parts of the show I didn’t like were the bits taken from Miranda - bursting into song for no reason; the silly waving from all the cast at the end, for example.

But putting all the Miranda stuff aside, this was a much better show. I liked it and enjoyed watching. It’s a feel good show and the cats are adorable! Unlike Miranda, the characters are also likeable and relatable and the storyline is much better too.

I think Mayim got better in the role as the episodes went on and I think she did a good job. She should make it her own and not try to be another version of Miranda - that would no doubt improve the show.

Production should also stay away from the episodic storylines regurgitated from Miranda and just come up with their own fresh ideas.

Anyone sitting on the fence should give this show a chance. It’s worth watching to get to know the characters and see where they go - which is what makes a good show in the first place. Looking forward to season 2!

I agree. Never watched Miranda but yeah, the worst parts of the show were the parts you described that were apparently lifted from across the pond. The awkward Sesame Street-like cast waving-goodbye thing just annoyed me from the beginning.

IMO it was ok, and got a little better as it went on - and I loved Bialik on Big Bang so like you I really wanted to like it more. My wife definitely liked it a lot more than me. Leslie Jordan was probably the funniest overall.

I think my biggest gripe is setting it in Kentucky. They have only one person with an accent from the area, for example. I live in eastern TN just south of there and their version of Louisville is nothing like the “real” one, much less the entire region around it. I think they should have set it in Washington or Oregon somewhere - the lack of accents, the more progressive political attitudes, the diversity of the cast/extras - all of that is closer to the Pac Northwest than Appalachia-ish KT. Plus, mentioning Dolly Parton is about the only thing that provides a little “local” flavor, and she’s from TN. Why promote/celebrate an idealized image of a place that is in reality closer to the Ohio of “Hillbilly Elegy” than to their seemingly generic American city?

Despite the laugh track and the overuse of “Kat” talking to the camera, the show is watchable and the ending is definitely different than any other sitcoms. If Mayim Bialik, Jim Parsons and other writers would tone down the one-liners, remove the laugh track or don’t insert as much and bring a little subtle humor, the show could be nice. It was entertaining and not a total waste

Well, considering it’s a remake of a genius British sitcom (Miranda) from over 10 years ago, I’d say it’s not that unique…

the2nd 2 points 4 years ago. 3/5 stars.

thanks for info. I’m gonna have to check out Miranda now. :)

DaniBl 3 points 4 years ago.

You definitely should. It’s comedy gold!

syndromezed 2 points 3 years ago.

I don’t know about comedy gold for Miranda, but the “real” (Brit) version of Coupling was comedy platinum. :)

stsguy 3 points 4 years ago.

See the brit version Maranda much better

Not sure if you’ve already seen it, but The Unicorn is a good sitcom. Well, the first few seasons anyway and after that you just want to see what the characters get up to :)

OptimusPrimeWire 2 points 4 years ago. 1/5 stars. (Contains Spoilers)

This was soo bad, agreed it is a rip-off of Miranda Hart and a bad one at that. It was not funny, there were no memorable jokes and the lead actress has said some pretty controversial things regarding pretty women and dressing conservatively to avoid being attacked, not to mention she’s in full support of the atrocities of isra-hell?

nosalbal 2 points 4 years ago. 3/5 stars.

I thought it will be good. Unfortunately this is bad.

Junglistic 2 points 4 years ago. 1/5 stars.

What utter gargage…

SapphireStorm 2 points 4 years ago. 4/5 stars.

Definitely not as funny as the original Miranda, but I liked it enough to want to watch the next episodes.

Geogenesis 2 points 4 years ago. 5/5 stars.

This show is hilarious! I almost did not watch it because of the comments, which are usually a good indicator whether a show is good or not, but this time they missed the mark with their opinions. Funny, quirky, and well written. I honestly do not understand the hate which this show seems to generate here, Ignore them. Heck, ignore me. I give it a solid 9 out of 10. But you watch it, give it a try and see for yourself.

Snowdrop 3 points 3 years ago.

I agree 100% with Geogenesis :)

me too, Nice to see it’s been renewed for a second season.

jbls 1 points 4 years ago.

Oh my God!!! I don’t know whose bright idea this was but this is just terrible! Bialik is not funny in this at all. I feel so bad for Miranda Hart. This show was ripped from her Brit sitcom “Miranda” and, unfortunately, she let them. She also happens to be one of the producers and she should have known better. The whole format, from fourth wall asides to the cast bows at the end is a dreadful, dreadful, dreadful copy. Please view the original series.

Snowdrop 1 points 3 years ago.

Miranda just does the same thing every episode. It’s like watching a bad case of deja vu! She’s not funny and only got her own show because Daddy works for the BBC :(

cookiealamode 1 points 4 years ago.

I hate it when a terrible sitcom interacts with me against my will

DaniBl 1 points 4 years ago.

Well, considering Miranda was hilarious and very few shows, if any, could compare to it, it’s no surprise this was a bit of a let down. Especially when it comes to the part of her mum…that woman is so full of botox her face is motionless. Miranda’s mum was just as funny as Miranda.

Carlocp 1 points 4 years ago.

its soooooo blosssom, similar format, same talking but on an adult with diferent problems, im not sure this will work

RainbowJingle 1 points 3 years ago.

I really wanted to like this. As a Brit, I chortled my way through Miranda which at the time was in a class of its own and greatly loved.

I feel that the format and tropes needed radical changing not just to suit the US culture, but because Miranda aired in 2009 and the ideas are no longer fresh.

I agree that the essence of the character: a single cat loving woman in late 30s who is socially awkward with a gorgon of a mother and a quirky business with quirky pals and some slapstick, could have worked well as a traditional sitcom.

This needs stripping back of its meta moments and I’m sorry that I wasn’t even able to finish the pilot, not least as I adore Mayam and appreciate her being given a starring role.

dickgrimes 1 points 3 years ago. 1/5 stars.

Dang show is terrible and I love Kyla Pratt😢 They cancelled The Cool Kids for this?? 🤬

SnakePliscan 0 points 3 years ago.

Fire the old guy put that french chick Brigitte in his place and will watch the show all day long , er for a couple hours anyway…
