In the Mood
( 1987 )
Sonny reminisces about a time in his life forty-three years earlier when he was a socially awkward but street smart 15-year-old in 1944. He lived in what he considered a bizarre home life in Los Angeles with his somewhat naive but unusual parents. Like most mid-teen boys, he wanted to meet a nice girl his own age and ultimately fall in love with her. Girls his own age didn't seem to be attracted to him. Instead, he met and romanced in succession two older women: first, twenty-one year old Judy, who was already in a common law relationship which had bore two children, and second, twenty-five year old Francine, whose husband was away at war. After the first highly publicized relationship, he was dubbed "The Woo Woo Kid" by the press. And despite the press resulting from the first relationship after which Sonny vowed not to get involved with an older woman ever again, he met Francine which started the cycle all over again. This press also brought disdain by many, but admiration and love from afar by an abundance of young women and teenyboppers. With this recollection of life in 1944, Sonny just wants to tell the story from his side.

Artificial Lies
( 2000 )
Famed psychiatrist and known ladies man Dr. Palmer Harrison is found murdered in his office after the end of the working day. He died with an erection, leaving the police investigators to suspect initially that his sexual partner at the time is the murderer. Their lead suspect is who is listed as his last patient of the day, heiress Karen Wettering, whose father, Charles Wettering, is dismayed at whatever negative publicity his children, especially Karen, are always the center of. Karen categorically denies having attended that scheduled session or having killed Palmer, but she does admit to having had a sexual relationship with him. Roger Bellamy, Karen's lawyer and friend, asks his friend, recently widowed psychiatrist, Dr. Peter Rexler, to conduct an initial psychiatric evaluation of Karen to make sure there are no hidden skeletons with which he has to worry in court. That meeting leads to a sexual relationship between Karen and Peter, who now has a vested interest in seeing that nothing bad happens to her. But as evidence continues to mount against Karen and as Roger in turn scratches his head in how best to defend her, Peter comes up with a solution - manufacture a medical lie, albeit a dangerous one - that will at least give Roger some time to mount a credible defense. What they are all unaware of is that a sexual history diary that Palmer kept - with which Palmer's assistant is blackmailing Roger and Karen, but which Roger believes is merely an embarrassment than conclusive evidence against Karen - contains crucial information as to the murderer's motives.

Handle with Care
( 1958 )
At a college located in the small town of Haverton, law Professor Roger Bowden's third year Evidence class is about ready to hold its annual final project, a mock grand jury investigation. As usual, they will be investigating the workings of an imaginary town, one that generally has some built-in salacious or exotically criminal element. And as usual, Bowden appoints the class' leading student as the District Attorney, this year being Zachary Davis. And as usual, the DA can appoint his assistant DA, who Zach chooses being his girlfriend, Mary Judson, and his investigative team. But Zach, who may be the brightest law student Bowden's ever taught among an already special class, wants to do things a bit differently. Rather than make believe, he wants to investigate the goings-on in Haverton. This suggestion sits a bit uneasy with most of his classmates including Mary, who were born and raised in Haverton, and whose parents have held positions of authority in town. Conversely, Zach is an outsider in more ways than one. He is not from Haverton, and has a bit of a chip on his shoulders as he does not come from a wealthy family, and his father was once incarcerated. But ultimately the class goes along with Zach's suggestion. As Zach and his team uncover one minor problem after another, they all end up being explainable. But Zach thinks he himself has uncovered a powder keg of a corruption story involving misappropriation of funds by the town's current mayor and oft mentioned as a possible gubernatorial candidate, the beloved Dick Williston, when he was the county tax collector. As Zach doggedly questions the mayor, Zach becomes persona non grata among many of the long time town residents who staunchly defend Mayor Williston. Will anything the mayor has to say about the missing on paper quarter of a million dollars be explainable in a court of law? And is it any different than being explainable in a moral sense?

Her biggest wish is to own a horse herself, a dream her father cannot afford at all. When Val's offbeat younger sister (Sheedy) arrives with a newcomer, a maverick photojournalist played by Emmy winner, Martha Plimpton, tensions rise as secrets of love, loss and betrayal are revealed. Years of friendship are tested in a pivotal year as the women assemble again for the engagement of another and once more to bereave the shocking death of a third. What began as an experiment at Sundance Film Institute, Chantilly Lace, explores the landscape of contemporary women's issues with humor and honesty 'unlike any American film.'
