A nice young fellow escorts the objects of his affections on a first date to Coney Island, hoping to woo her with sweet seaside amusements. But almost immediately, Coney Island’s unconventional spirit intervenes. The boy is shocked and awed. How should he react? What will this nice girl think of him? The two stumble their way into a realm ever more gritty, sensuous, ever more other. The boy finds himself not just repelled but also aroused. In fact, the more he watches of this hyperbolic world, the less one can be sure whether he wants what he sees, or sees what he wants. It’s the tale of an uncertain young man, and of his relent to the forces that conspire to win his confidence.
