The story revolves around five young African American students who receive scholarships to attend a private all-white Christian school in the Deep South, from a fund donated by a wealthy African American woman pushing non-segregation at a very racially-charged time in American history. These five academically inclined students struggle while attending the school and battle the adversity of racism, prejudice, fear, and violence, all while trying to graduate. |
