French born Magician Robert-Houdin is widely considered to be the father of modern Magic. In 1856 he was asked by Louis-Napoleon to pacify the tribes in French-Algeria. During this period the French Army commanders maintained order in the newly occupied region. Napoleon the third was worried about a religious tribe called the Marabouts. They were able to control their fellow tribesman with faux magical abilities, and they advised their leaders to break ranks with the French. Napoleon wanted Robert-Houdin to show that French magic was stronger. The magical mission began with a show at the Bab Azoun theater in Algeria. In 1856 it was a Magician who changed to course of history. (Brought to the screen by world renowned Magician and Filmmaker, Scott Cervine.) |
