Wake is about Anna’s mental deterioration in the face oh her partner’s unexpected death. Grief, regret and despair are intertwined with hope in this highly dysfunctional love-story. Rebutting all stereotypes, Wake deals with the clash of gritty realism and absurd surrealism. The story is told in parallel chronologies which induce a sense of alienation and tragedy. As Anna spends three days with her partner’s corpse, we observe her mundane cohabiting activities as well as the barely containable emotions she is experiencing. With its powerful and dramatic soundtrack Wake could easily be a metaphor for the inner journey that we will all encounter in the face of death. |
