This program chronicles the 1998 Kodak International Balloon Fiesta, a colorful nine-day event that takes place in Albuquerque, New Mexico, every October. Archival film footage and interviews with fiesta participants reveal the history of the event, how the balloons work and why the fiesta is the most popular ballooning event in the world. FIESTA IN THE SKY brings viewers some of the competitions that occur during the event as well as the spectacular ritual of the ‘glow,’ when many of the colorful balloons light their burners in unison, creating a magnificent spectacle of color and light.
