Cradle is a collaborative project that involves an artist, a choreographer, dancer, videographers, co-producers, directors, an editor, and a composer, all of whom live and work in Philadelphia. Dancers perform an improvisational piece within and around Brian Dennis’ large sculpture, ‘Radio Cradle,’ that was installed in the Vox Populi gallery in May 2000. This video, set to an original score, explores this performance, It looks at how space, structure, disharmony, and synchronization constrain the relationships between the dancers and their environment. The video’s trajectory follows four stages: curiosity, exploration and discovery, limitation and frustration, and relationship as the dancers affirm their connection with each other and move out of ‘Radio Cradle’ transformed. |
