Details:

Jack Stevens loves Clarice Weybrook and hopes some day to make her his wife. At a week-end party they meet the Count Derbley, who is possessed of fifty million dollars and a title. Clarice is fond of teasing her lover, and torments him by telling him that perhaps she will become the Countess Derbley. The mother seeks her daughter, and, finding her with Jack, deliberately snubs him and carries her away. Clarice finally marries the count, and Jack goes West and obtains a position as foreman on the count’s ranch. Suddenly a message informs the count that he has been ruined through a mistaken investment. He goes West and sells his ranch to the foreman, Jack Stevens. On his way home he expires of heart failure. His wife and mother-in-law are apprised of his death and they journey to the ranch only to find that they are left penniless, the count having sold it to Jack. Difficulties are eventually settled by the reconciliation of Jack and Clarice in matrimony.
