The song, Marigny Tumble, was written as a celebration of life in the Faubourg Marigny before Hurricane Katrina. It’s a romance of a frayed and radiant place and time, and of that time’s compulsively creative denizens, their strivings scattered on the breeze like the incense of the coffee roasting warehouses … “bitter, yes, but promise in the air.” The Marigny Tumble film short evokes the spirit of that time through a love story … a “Marigny Tumble” of the amorous kind. The narrative arc echoes the ‘overarching simplicity of form and harmonies’ in the song. But the film, like the music, is layered with nuance.
