The documentary Zwart Gat (Black Hole) is a simple but impressive documentary portraying four people who suffer or have suffered of a depression. For all four of them, the foundation of their depressive disease has its origin in their youth. But each of them finds a totally different way of dealing with her or his depression. Varying from medication to meditation, from a choice for live to a death wish. Sometimes the story is almost unbearably heavy, sometimes lighter, such as one of the main characters shows how he scares the depression as a troublesome demon from his kitchen and subsequently banishes the depression from his life. Super 8 footage from the director’s childhood is used to give interviews where necessary extra color and depth. |
