Simon is sitting at a cafe with a bunch of flowers, trying to call his girlfriend who he was supposed to be meeting that day. Eventually, someone picks up - but it’s not his girlfriend but another man who, not realising that Simon is her boyfriend, tells him he will be out with her all day on a picnic. Distraught, Simon tears the tag from the flowers into tiny pieces and hastens to pay his bill and leave the cafe, rudely interrupting another girls order as he does so. The girl is Alsyon and although she and the waiter allow him to pay and leave, she leaves him in no doubt as to his rudeness. Feeling stricken, Simon offers her the flowers and then leaves, walking along London’s South Bank, feeling more miserable as he looks at the happy couples. Gazing into the Thames, he starts to think again about Alyson and decides to go back to the cafe to find her but she has gone. Then he spots a petal on the floor from the flowers he gave her and decides to follow them to see if he can find her. Eventually he does but she is meeting another man and carelessly leaves the flowers on a park bench. Simon picks them up and wanders disconsolately down to the Thames where he is about to throw them in the river when Alyson comes running down and stops him. After a bit of awkward conversation, Alyson admits that she was quite happy to run into him again and then snatches the flowers off him, forcing Simon to chase her down the beach. He grabs them off her but tells her that if she is nice to him, that he might buy her some more. The film ends with them walking off hand in hand as the credits roll.
