Fragile men cautiously return to the beaches on which they lost so much in the name of freedom, 65 years ago. Today, the serene Normandy landscapes belie the shattering memories that bring these men together. Those of 6th June 1944. D Day. Set against a backdrop of the 2009 anniversary ceremonies, JUNE 6th is a touchingly intimate piece, capturing the return of some of the few surviving veterans. Each has his reason. Each has his story. Choosing snatched reminiscences over traditional documentary techniques; JUNE 6th was filmed by a one man crew using a handheld stills camera and microphone. No official access or permission was granted, other than an invitation from the men to commit their pilgrimage to film. Because when these men go, they will take the memories of that day with them. |
