Carly Rae Jepsen exploded onto the scene with her 2012 summertime hit “Call Me Maybe,” but few are aware that the song was actually written and performed first by folk legend Bob Dylan in the 1960s. Dylan recorded demos of the song, but no official studio recording ever materialized because he believed it had no potential. As he went on to write classics such as “Like a Rolling Stone” and “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” and become an icon, rare footage of him performing “Call Me Maybe” would collect dust in a studio vault for over 45 years until he gave Jepsen his blessing to cover the song. Subsequently, the success of Jepsen’s version has resulted in one of Dylan’s original recordings being leaked online for the world to see. |
