In a lower-income housing suburb of Los Angeles, seventeen year old Ali and her mother, Rebecca, live an unhealthy, codependent lifestyle. Ali is an incredibly talented ballerina who has never really felt like she has fit in, or has a future outside of the world she knows. But, when an opportunity arises for Ali to tryout for a three month summer ballet intensive in New York City, Ali sees her chance to reach for something she never thought possible. When Ali’s mother finds out about this opportunity, she does everything in her power to dissuade Ali from going after it. Ali finds herself at a crossroads. She has to choose whether she will continue to let her mother guide her down the path she is on, or confront her mother and take the road-less-travelled to an unknown future alone.
