Orson with his soon to be ex-wife Rita. There was a line of people that wanted to fillet him alive for having butchered her beautiful hair for this, but according to him, no one was more upset about the travesty than himself. The carny end with mirrors is a much talked about pay-off. Apparently this picture was done as a deal so Orson could get Around The World In 80 Days done. Good deal. Orson was an idiot regarding his personal dealings with Rita, but he was a brilliant filmmaker.
She reminds me of an older Lana Turner with that hairstyle.
Absolutely. Can even see an older Jean Harlow, or Carole Lombard, who were denied to live so long.
I cringe at the way her character is treated in this film as a “reflection” of the way Hitchcock treated many of his “Blondes.” One could go on for long dissecting how he dissects Rita’s form and if I remember correctly, he was indeed cruel to her. (?)
For us, it was hard to avoid thinking about Hitchcock also.
It was actually Orson Welles directing her here. But, Hitchcock definitely did his share of terrorizing “Blondes.”
Yes, I wasn’t thinking about my pronouns! Shame on me too because I know better. Chalk it up to sleepiness. It sounded okay in my head, right? 😂
LOL. Got it.
I enjoyed seeing this again. Good story, great acting … time well spent re-watching this one.
A good movie to watch. But there were some things that prevented the story to flow seamlessly. And it has to do mostly with the way Orson Welles shot some camera angle. If you know the man’s work, you’ll see what I mean. Some scene did not gel with the following scene fluidly. Which gave for some awkward viewing. Also, there were too many close-up face shot. It actually made me back away from the screen. it was a bit slow at times too. Again, not a bad movie to see. But it’s shot Orson’s style. Which you either like or don’t.
