A woman, Patricia, is found drunk and distraught by her son, Simon, when he comes home from graduate school to visit. We learn that her husband has left with a younger woman. Patricia falls deeper and deeper into a depression that eventually results in psychosis. Simon hires a nurse, Madalena, when he leaves for a work trip. Patricia’s condition worsens and begins to scare Madalena, who brings in a shaman to help Patricia recover. The shaman uses various rituals to free Patricia from the bond she feels with her husband. Patricia appears recovered when Simon returns, but when he tells her that he has met the woman he intends to marry, her psychosis returns full force resulting in lethal consequences.
