An Easy not over the top script with as usual EXCELLENT delivery from Hardy and Rapace. Excellent Directing, a simple script but an actual page turner. “Dinner and a Movie ….. and this is the Movie. Cheers, Enjoy!!
one of these “not sure why i like this one,but i do” movies
Exactly… well said. Once again, I think its simply Noomi-magenatism… Tom Hardy is a great presence as well.
An ordinary script turned into an extra-ordinary movie by the terrific performances of Tom Hardy, Noomi, Matthew and James Gandolfini. Hardy has completely changed his voice/demeanor for this role, couldn’t even recognize him at first.
Last time I saw something with Gandolfini was The Sopranos, in which he was equally great.
A must watch 5/5!
Adapted from Dennis Lehane’s short story “Animal Rescue” this was a superb production all around, from the script to the editing to the cast. Hardy was able to bring the subtle nuances of the character of Bob Saginowski out in such an amazing way (You need to read the story to fully appreciate it) and while Gandolfini and Rapace were amazing as usual how about the performances of Mathias Schoenaerts and John Ortiz! “Nobody ever see’s you coming, do they Bob?” Best line and SUMMARY of the entire movie! I think what I took away the most from this was how powerful a minimalist script is when you have such powerful character’s. The story was quite simple, nothing complex, but the character’s and their BACKSTORIES was the key ingredient to make it work. My only negative comment about the movie was the Location. Lehane is considered the KING of Boston Noir (Mystic River, Gone Baby Gone) and this story was originally set in Dorchester, Mass. but it was filmed in Brooklyn, NY. Consequently, you never get any clues but the overall “feel” is New York throughout. On the flip side I am glad they did not ask Gandolfini to try to do a Boston accent! That would have gone over badly.
