‘The Long Road Home after war’ explores the ongoing aftermath of war trauma. The focus is on combat veterans, a woman who worked as a prostitute in South Vietnam during the war in order to feed her family, and on the children of veterans as well as alternate forms of the veterans themselves. It conveys the impact of war from individual perspectives that glance off each other as characters interact with lives they don’t realize they’re connecting to. The atmosphere is one of isolation as each individual attempts to find the way on a road that will not end. Vietnamese folk songs played on a violin inform the atmosphere underscoring variations of mood and nuance characterizing the haunting realm the film’s characters inhabit. |
