Mimicking the look, sound and feel of an old silent movie, this experimental documentary film is made entirely from home movie footage of Mount Desert Island dating from the late 1920’s to the mid-1960’s, culled from three separate collections of 16mm and 8mm film. From visits by a presidential yacht to trash collection and disposal, from sweaty local quarry workers to church services with high society summer residents, MOUNT DESERT ISLAND THROUGH THE CAMERA LENS shows both sides of this unique community, contrasting summer with winter and capturing both the glamour of seasonal life on the island and all of the behind the scenes work that was needed to make it happen. |
