In the early 1990’s Democratic Gubernatorial candidate Gatewood Galbraith, advertising himself as the Last Free Man in America, burst onto the Kentucky political scene. A hulking 6’4 Lexington criminal defense lawyer with a razor sharp wit and a propensity for controversy, Gatewood as part of his campaign platform proposed the re-legalization of Hemp as an alternate crop to tobacco. This documentary follows him on the campaign trail as he attempts to have his controversial message heard throughout the 1990’s and into the 2000’s. Gatewood ran for governor five times, lastly in November of 2011. Sadly, Gatewood died in January of 2012, his dreams of political office unrealized. However, his impact as a free thinker and advocate for the poor and disenfranchised have left a lasting legacy in Kentucky. |
