This series entry starts with a story on the newest crime-fighting tool used by the Illinois State Police: a large, specially-equipped vehicle that can serve as a mobile crime laboratory, command post, and jail. It also has high-power weapons available for use in appropriate situations. Next we visit a high school in Beverly Hills, California. The school’s gymnasium has a retractable floor that reveals a swimming pool underneath. In Waukesha, Wisconsin, oddball inventor Russell E. Oakes shows a ‘Rube Goldberg’ apparatus that lets him know when the water heater has heated the water hot enough for his bath. In Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, we see the mosaic patterns in the sidewalks, painstakingly made by setting small stones in place. The final feature story takes us to an assembly plant in New Orleans, Louisiana, where US Navy landing barges and other craft are assembled. |
