On April 27, 2013, hundreds will flock to the grand opening party of the first-ever sober bar in the Midwest, a suburban Chicago sports bar/night club called The Other Side. Its founder is 22-year-old Chris Reed, a former heroin addict who escaped his chaotic and near-fatal past to form New Directions Addiction Recovery Services, the non-profit group behind the unique project. With help from The Other Side’s surprisingly rowdy atmosphere, Reed seeks to shatter the stigma associated with sober living while reaching out to those struggling with addiction, hoping to save lives like the one he nearly lost.
