Arthur Cohen’s “Brooklyn” character takes in the sights and sounds of Las Vegas and takes in a live performance by the Ritz Brothers. Only cynics would take note that among those in attendance were Jeff Chandler and Marilyn Maxwell, currently appearing in an U-I film, and comedian Joe E. Lewis, whose life story was being played by Frank Sinatra in another U-I film. The studio finally figured out that if “Brooklyn” showed up in Dallas or Spokane, there wasn’t going to be a lot of U-I connections or chances to slip some plugs in as entertainment. |
