This documentary follows Michelle McBee through her typical day as an elementary school teacher. Reveals the behind-the-scenes interactions and tasks that engage the contemporary urban teacher. “A day in the life of a teacher” was shot in a “quasi-Wiseman” style that in the UK would be called “fly-on-the-wall” and today is standard technique for reality television. This was the first professional production in the Midwest US to be shot on the then-new S-VHS component video format using a consumer-grade camcorder. There were no S-VHS editing systems yet, so the field footage was transferred to 3/4 inch Umatic video format for post-production. Award of Merit winner in the 1988 ITVA (International Television Association) Video Festival in Kansas City, Missouri. Panel reviewed and presented at the 1990 University Film and Video Association Conference in Ithaca, New York, on June 14, 1990. |
