Greg Sania is plagued by a neurosis of an unknown past. He sits before a door waiting for it to open. Dr. Melphis walks in and sets his tape recorder down, along with Greg’s file. He takes a deep breath and they are ready to begin. The door opens emitting a white light. Greg walks through. There he faces yet another door. He’s now in a confined chamber with two metal doors. The doctor prompts him to start, being heard over some type of recording system. Greg sees that he’s not alone. There is an inhabitant of this chamber; a withered, old man who speaks of repressed memories and a woman he can’t remember. The doctor knows that Greg’s solution lies in the realization of this woman, this ghost of his unconscious, and probes him further with questioning. Suddenly, a cackling erupts from one of the adjacent chambers, a cackle that torments this old man. Greg slides open the eyepiece of the cackling door and is confronted by a pair of murderous eyes, whose gaze is fixed on the old man. He condemns him for being weak and not seeing the serenity in the act that they’ve committed. The old man unable to come to terms with what he’s heard, falls to the floor. The wide-eyed gaze then turns to Greg, pleading for freedom and another chance at serenity. Greg, disturbed by the demands, backs up towards the other door. The eyes lash out, demanding serenity, demanding freedom, as Greg rushes through the door, leaving the old man to be forever tormented by his repressed memories. Greg catches his breath and rests his head against the door in a chamber divided in light. Here Greg is confronted by a nihilistically obsessive man, who feverishly marks his walls with his blackened fingernails. Greg nears him as the doctor asks questions. He is also haunted by the presence of a woman. Disturbed by the thought of her, he pushes Greg away, demanding to be left alone. As Greg delves deeper into the maze of chambers he finds a man meditating in a constructed circle of blood red. As he walks towards Greg, he notices the red in his hands. The man claims that god petitions his acts and it is him that will make her see. When the doctor asks “see what?” he thrusts his hand onto Greg’s wrist, instilling the red into him. Greg breaks free from his grip and runs for the door as he chases behind. Greg jumps through the door into another chamber as it closes in on the blood stained man. He howls for freedom, crashing his fists against the metal door. The doctor attempts to calm him down. During all the screaming and thrashing, Greg notices a woman sitting behind him. The screams fade. She stares deeply into his eyes and he into hers. Troubled by a certain awareness, Greg begins to heave and is brought back to consciousness. The doctor covered in sweat, breathes heavily as Greg awakens. The doctor senses his fleeting state of awareness and rushes to his side. He tries to pry something out of him; anything but he sees that his sanity is slipping. The doctor desperately pleads further. Suddenly, in a moment of clarity Greg questions something, something that he’s done in his past. They’ve reached the core of his disassociation. The doctor tries his best to keep him conscious but this clarity passes and the doctor is left futilely questioning an absent mind. Dr. Melphis realizes that their session is over, picks up his tape recorder and leaves. Greg is left alone, in the neurotic maze of his unconscious. |
