Fischer, a tall thin writer, is woken in the middle of the night by three inspectors from the state sanatorium. They issue him with a summons to see the state Physician. He is terrified, and seeks reassurance from his friends. Fischer tries to keep his appointment, but is turned away. He is threatened by the inspectors again and breaks in to the state sanatorium. He is interrogated by a medical assistant, who injects him with hallucinogenic drugs. The Physician appears, a horrific sight, smoking and stained with blood. He subjects Fischer to a bizarre psychological experiment. Fischer experiences a series of macabre hallucinations. When the experiment is over the Doctor disappears. Fischer is rescued by a female friend and mistakenly thinks his ordeal is over. |
