Drunk Las Vegas Pavement/Snap Shots (DLVP/SS), using documentary methods and tactics to depict the filmmaker’s state of mind, lost somewhere between the witnessed horrors in Las Vegas and deceased family member’s thoughts and histories in Wyoming, attempts to find an amalgamation but instead encounters continually opposing artifacts with no hope of homogeny. The film proposes a paradox often encountered in the mind: two things are one. The main question asked by the film is: what makes a documentary? DLVP/SS has all the elements of a straight forward documentary film: direct cinema footage, an interview, reenactments, and voice over. The film attempts to use conventional documentary fundamentals to create a new and unique experience while still remaining a documentary at least in terms of components. It is a suggestion that something as formulaic as a documentary can still be viewed in a new way. |
