Even in prison, we grow up Loosely based on the true story of Omar Khadr, it is a character study of a child soldier imprisoned in a place not unlike Guantanamo. In it he grows up pulled by the various forces of family, youth, sexual awakening, religion and country. In it he learns how to free himself from all of them. In writing it, I asked myself - what does it mean to to become an adult in these circumstances. I wanted the audience to feel what this boy was feeling. I hope I succeeded just a little bit. |
