In the fall of 2009, I was living in Shanghai. October 3 was the 60Th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China. I stayed at home to watch the festivities on TV. A week earlier, I visited the Ancient Observatory in Beijing. There, as I was resting on a bench, I saw two women walking around the courtyard. In this video, as the TV footage plays, I recount stories of my life in Shanghai; as the women walk around the courtyard, an anthropologist comments on their walk. |
