When a neurotic stranger confronts a woman in a café, a rare opportunity arises to exercise the values of general civility. THE CONTRACT is social hyperbole that examines the absurd costume of masculinity and honor. At the root of humankind’s greatest conflict is the mirage of honor. The pride of men is the most common catalyst for conflict and war. Humility is often found in empathy towards your neighbor. Obsessive compulsion and a blinding ego does not allow the stranger the compassion to see the pain of the woman before him. His insistence on on a ‘human social contract’ drives his fixated passion for an old fashioned duel. The woman obliges. Like an onion peeled, the contract reveals the many layers of the human character and how an innocent sleight can lead to great misunderstanding. |
