The Search for Dismal Nitch is the story of one man’s quest to find an historical encampment of the Lewis and Clark Expedition on the north side of the Columbia River. Due to a severe storm along a shore line of jagged rocks and a steep hill, Captain William Clark named the dreary spot ‘that dismal little nitch.’ For six stormy days, the Corps of Discovery was trapped by fierce wind and high waves at the rocky shoreline. While the shoreline has changed over time, in this student made film, three high school students follow Jim Sayce as he shares the location of the spot he believes the 33 members camped. This film was made during Film Camp in the summer of 2011 at Lewis and Clark NHP. |
