Iraq war veteran Scott O’Malley returns home battling PTSD from his years of service. Army Psychologist Dr. Haddad tries to help Scott cope but soon discovers a greater trauma in Scott’s childhood. Scott’s father, PAUL, a Vietnam vet had bought a Bay Area coffee house that became a center for anti-war protesters to congregate. One fateful day, a policemen believing Paul betrayed his country, walked in then shot and killed Scott’s mother Grace. Also in the coffee shop that day, four year old Scott and his two friends Bethanie and Aaron. The three children would spend the rest of their lives trying to deal with the trauma of that day. In an effort to prove their loyalties, Scott and Aaron both joined the Marines and experienced their own wartime horrors. As Scott begins to reconcile his past, he confronts Aaron about the atrocities they participated in, renewing his relationship with his father and facing the future with an open heart. |
